How to spot a phone scam

Phone scam: phone call from a scammer that is impersonating a company or organization, often using emotionally charged scenarios, with the intent on stealing your money or personal information.

This month’s report comes to us from ANZ New Zealand’s YouTube channel. Here they share four ways to spot a phishing email. The four ways are:

  1. They claim to be from a company (Amazon & Microsoft for example), bank, or police

  2. They will say there is something wrong with your Internet, credit union/bank account, computer or device

  3. They will ask you to download software/app (this is malware that gives them full access to your device and its contents)

  4. They may ask for you banking or other sensitive information
